About

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.
The Lord protects them and keeps them alive.

He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.
The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.

Psalm 41:1

David’s Hope International is a response to the incredible needs in Kenya witnessed by fifteen men and women from Northern Virginia who in December 2008 served on a medical mission trip in Eburru, Kenya. The reality of children going hungry while living on the streets and having no power by themselves to change their circumstances inspired the group to take action and attempt to make a difference.

David’s Hope International is a Christ centered awareness and fund raising organization created to serve those who live in extreme poverty and speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

David is boy we met on the dusty steps of an abandoned British farmhouse on a mountainside in northern Kenya and the inspiration behind the founding of our cause. A local pastor hopes to transform the farmhouse into community care center so that children like David can have hope for a better life.

The vision is to create lasting solutions for the physical, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs of abandoned children in the poorest communities of the world. The mission is to build bridges between local organizations serving abandoned children in impoverished communities and those who can do something to meet the needs in practical ways.

The team that founded DHI includes 15 young adults from the Washington, DC metro region.  This team traveled to Kenya in January 2009 to serve as a medical mission team with Pastor Steve and Mary in Eburru Kenya, as well as, alongside the Adventures in Missions school in the slums of Kibera in Nairobi.  This video is a small representation of that experience. The situation for many in Kenya is dire. Outside of urban areas, the infrastructure is non-existent and the folks living in the countryside have limited to no access to clean water, paved roads, medical facilities and many earn a wage of 2 US dollars a day.

In response to these needs, the team hosted medical clinics, built a mud hut, fed hundreds of children and adults, worked in schools, led a discussion about abstinence with 12-15 year olds, payed for 12 children to attend school through the first 8 years, led worship and drama in the town square, played with hundreds of kids, and made home visits to share the love of Christ with all who were ready to welcome them. As a result of this experience, this small team returned home to D.C. to found David’s Hope International.
