February 2011 Praise and Prayer Requests

Please join us in praying for the work in Eburru and in praising God for the mighty ways in which He answers our prayers!

Praises:

  • 418 individual donations were made to David’s Hope in 2010 – God blessed us greatly during our 2nd year!
  • New partners from around the USA are becoming aware of our mission & working alongside us to support Eburru
  • The African Inland Church (AIC) of Eburru planted a new church nearby named AIC Jerusalem.  Since it opened in January, they have already seen 15 new people join the church, including several who haven’t been inside a church in years or ever before

Prayers:

  • Successful school year, as the school now ministers to children in preschool – 2nd grade & 5th grade
  • Wisdom in how to build up & create sustainable programs in Eburru which will fund their current & future needs
  • The medical clinic & maternity ward staff and the many patients they will care for this month
  • Work at the school dorm to be completed so that children can begin living there
  • A full-time maternity nurse and a full-time school administrator are being sought.  Pray for Steve  & Mary as they search for the right candidates to hire
  • Volunteers & leaders to raise up and get involved in David’s Hope’s many goals for 2011 – there is a lot to accomplish!
  • Two woman who recently joined the AIC Jerusalem church but had not been in a church community for 15+ years.  Pray for them to grow in their faith & discipline.

January 2011 Praise and Prayer Requests

Please join us in praying for the work in Eburru and in praising God for the mighty ways in which He answers our prayers!

Praises:

  • Over 365 separate donations were made from the U.S. to David’s Hope in 2010
  • For the first full year (2010) we have almost doubled the income of 2009
  • Funds for 2 additional cows have been donated to continue the development of the feeding program
  • Kindergarten School Graduation took place on December 18th
  • 126 full time students are attending Camp Brethren Ministries school
  • Second cook was hired and their pay is covered through school tuition
  • Electric transformer is in place and will be hooked up for a fee

Prayers:

  • DHI Team in Eburru though January 20th - Pray for unity, eyes to see unmet needs, good health, open hearts, God’s leading to what he wants done
  • Locating & hiring of a full-time nurse, an additional teacher, an administrator to oversee the school, clinic & farming finances and a livestock assistant to grind feed, care for and clean up after the animals
  • Completion of new classroom buildings and purchase of furniture for them
  • Rain has been scarce lately.  Pray that more will come to bring water for people & crops
  • Wisdom for potential purchase of additional water tanks or watering systems

December 2010 Praise and Prayer Requests

Praises:

  • Over $76,000 has been raised through DHI to support Camp Brethren in the past year
  • Over $10,000 was raised to trough the Back to School campaign, thanks some very generous donors
  • Feeding program start-up is thriving with 4 goats, 2 cows, 200 chickens, and plentiful rainfall strengthening the crops & water supply
  • Cindy, Phil, Andy, Anjanette, Francis, & Kelly will be heading to Eburru in January to continue our partnership
  • 25 church members were baptized in Eburru last month
  • Kenya Power Generating Company is drilling for a future power station that may create local jobs

Prayers:

  • Guidance for Pastor Paul as he continues the work at the Eburru church & for Pastor Steve as he starts a church plant in nearby Thome
  • Selection of an overseer for the feeding program animals
  • A new 4th grade classroom was created for some children who were “hanging around” the school and not receiving an education.  Pray for them as they study to pass their exams and progress to 5th grade
  • Cindy, Phil & team as they prepare for their January 7th – 23rd trip and seek God’s plan for their time in country
  • Wisdom for DHI’s leaders as they undertake 2011 planning

Praises:

  • Over $44,000 has been raised through DHI here in the USA in 9 months
  • Two classrooms, a dining room & dorm renovations are funded; the block work on a third classroom is also funded
  • Teachers ‘ salaries are being paid monthly
  • Purchase of 4 goats (including one new, healthy kid) 200 chickens and 2 cows
  • Dr. Kimmel from Kijabe is helping at the clinic 3 days a week
  • Rain continues to fall & the crops keep growing!

Prayers:

  • Guidance for Pastor Peter as he pastors the existing Eburru church and for Pastor Steve as he starts a new church plant in nearby Thome
  • Safety on the many construction projects currently underway at Camp Brethren
  • Wisdom for the upcoming fund raisers and for willing workers
  • Kevin W.’s October 20th – November 5th trip to Eburru
  • Frontline missions team preparing to serve in Eburru November 12-27
  • David’s Hope missions team preparing to serve in Eburru January 7-23

August 2010 Praise and Prayer Requests

Praises:

  • Over $32,000 has been raised through DHI in the first seven months of 2010.
  • Katie and Kari getting to help in Eburru and share their updates with us
  • Solomon (age 4) is now thriving thanks to the feedings. He is able to run & laugh and is at the top of his class thanks to DHI and Nutty Butta peanut butter
  • 67% of Kenyans voted peacefully for the new constitution this month
  • The Kenyan government Education Officers visited Camp Brethren’s school and were pleased with what they saw.  This is an important step in accrediting the school

Prayers:

  • Safety, health and ministry opportunities for Brandon while he spends August in Eburru
  • Team member recruiting for the planned January 2011 DHI trip to Eburru and wisdom for the team leaders, Phil & Cindy
  • Strength for Steve & Mary and Jonathan Njenja as they and others coordinate the Camp Brethren programs
  • Construction of a dining hall which will serve 200 children and 2 dorms which will house 20 boys and 20 girls
  • Upcoming DHI fundraisers and volunteers to help organize and run the campaigns

July Praise and Prayer Requests

Praises:

  • Lots of rain should lead to a good harvest – 2 acres are ready for new cabbage seedlings to be planted
  • Purchase of 2 pregnant female goats and 1 male goat and for the nutrient rich milk this will provide to the children
  • The new classroom and dining hall foundations are completed
  • Eva, a third teacher, has been hired and the school is operating at capacity
  • Recent increase in numbers of patients served at the medical clinic
  • Over $26,000 has been raised by DHI in the first seven months of 2010

Prayer Requests:

  • Katie & Kari as they spend time in Eburru July 25 – August 9
  • Brandon as he spends time in Eburru July 31 – August 28
  • For preparations that are underway for a winter DHI trip to Kenya and for Phil & Cindy, the trip leaders
  • For the Camp Brethren leadership team in Eburru  as they coordinate all the activities, programs and new growth in Eburru
  • For the DHI leadership team to have wisdom in how to direct funds and best support the work in Eburru

April Praise and Prayer Requests

Praises

Pastor Steve Njenga, Mary, his wife and nurse, and 2 sons have arrived safely from Eburru to share their dreams and plans for Camp Brethren and DHI. They will be here until 4/29 visiting Va., D.C. Md. and N.C.

Requests

That God will be glorified through our efforts with all the events, fundraisers , vacation time for Pastor Steve’s visit and family
That Pastor Steve and Mary will be encouraged in their ministry and strengthened in their faith due to the visit
That God’s will for DHI (fundraising, direction and growth) is accomplished and clearly visible to DHI leadership during this trip
For safe travel to all the events and churches
For all the leaders back in Eburru that will be keeping up all the ongoing activities and programs, feedings over- seeing schools, church services and the clinic
For future mission teams that will serve in Eburru in the Summer and Fall of 2010

March Praise and Prayer Requests

Thank you so much for lifting Davids Hope up to the Lord in prayer!  Here are the current praises and prayer requests for March.

Praises

A young couple from N.C. felt called to move to Eburru, Kenya on March 6th to serve there after spending 2 months there each year since 2006. They will be married by Pastor Steve there. Gitti and Curt are learning Kikura the local language, will farm on the 1.5 acres they have bought with Francis a native there, and will build a small hut to live in. Their church in N.C. and 12 sponsors will fund them. They will help Pastor Steve with Camp Bretheren Ministries, farm, and be our western eyes and ears for the work funded by D.H.I.

Help on filing our first tax return for D.H.I. from Jeremiah

Pastor Steve Njenga, Mary, his wife and nurse, and 2 sons will be coming to share there dreams and plans for Camp Bretheren and DHI from April 6th-29th. They’ll visit D.C., Va., N.C., and hopefully Md.. churches, fundraiser events, George Washington Hospital local school etc..

Requests

That God will be glorified through our efforts with all the planning for Pastor Steve’s visit, setting up events and churches for them to share with

That Pastor Steve and Mary will be encouraged in their ministry and strengthened in their faith due to the visit

That God’s will for DHI (fundraising, direction and growth) is accomplished and clearly visible to DHI leadership during this trip

That volunteer ands details will come together in a low-stress way that glorifies God during preparation

To all our supporters of David’s Hope, we want to say thank you for your support and prayers.  January was an exciting month as our first team went to Eburru under the newly formed foundation of David’s Hope.

Praise
Over $30,000 dollars has been raised in less than 1 year
For the ministry of Pastor Steve, Mary and Jonathan (Steve’s brother)
For tax exempt status going through before the end of 2009.
Building and opening of the new Camp Brethren school (2 classrooms built!)
Two new water tanks have been purchased and are in place ready to be set up
An abundance of new students (70)
Two acres of land by the creek in Riff Valley to educate people on farming, provide food for ministry, and to sell food to promote sustainability

Team Praises
Safe return of the team from the January team trip, sponsored by David’s Hope.
Wonderful VBS program talking about Jesus’ characteristics and hygiene lessons that incorporated the message of Christ
Business seminars created much interest in pursuing future endeavors with the Keyans. Kenneth and Eliud (both locals) gave great examples and were a big help to the business team.
Medical supplies- $1500.00 of supplies were purchased in country for the clinic in Eburru
Two large community feedings to celebrate the new year and the new school! These also provided and opportunity to share about Christ.

Requests
New teacher needs to be sponsored for all the new students
Irrigation system for the new land to be productive
Direction for the leaders of Camp Brethren and DHI as they set the vision for the year.

Praises and Prayer Requests for December 2009

Thank you for being committed to praying for God’s work in Kenya through David’s Hope International. Here are some specific prayer points that you can lift up to the Lord on behalf of DHI.
We are sending our first mission team to Eburru in a few weeks.  Below are some specific prayer requests from the team:

  • Preparation- spiritually, physically, emotionally
  • Health and Safety for the team before, during and after the trip
  • Wisdom- for John and Becca as they plan last minute details and any in-country decision making, for the team members as they pack and prepare for their activities, for Pastor Steve and his wife Mary (who we’ll be working with)
  • Spirit of flexibility and team unity; Sense of surrender- understand that our expectations and plans may differ from what God has for us
  • To really depend on God for the strength to do all that he has called us to do related to this trip
    opportunities before, during and after the trip to share about God with our friends, family, and the people of Kenya

General Requests

  • God’s wisdom as to His priorities for Eburru
    Food, health, clothing, water, spiritual growth and education for the children of Eburru and Kenya as a whole country
  • Successful ways to fund the projects-letters, fundraisers, donations etc.
  • Needs in Eburru be seen and dealt with on a timely basis, for people to communicate when they are in need before it’s too late
  • Future sustainable resources so the people can live independent of outside help
    For money to continually and successfully be transferred to Eburru
  • Mary and Pastor Steve to get vistas so they can come to the US for both sharing their work, vision and to get some rest
    Wisdom about Morgan house and its future uses
